The buying brief for packaged chemical products
Small chemical containers often ship within cartons or trays. Confirm the outer packaging arrangement and any handling restrictions supplied with the product.
Set the pallet condition and storage brief alongside the goods’ requirements. Heat treatment is not a promise that timber will remain dry or clean after storage and transport.
What needs particular attention
A damaged carton can compromise containment even if the pallet itself looks sound. Confirm any moisture or cleanliness criteria with the receiver, describe covered storage and keep packaging protection separate from treatment requirements.

Prepare the enquiry
- Include a photograph or drawing of cartoned containers for industrial customers, with the packed dimensions and loaded mass.
- Explain outer pack dimensions; leak protection; segregation; packaging handling instructions so the proposed base can be compared with the load.
- Add storage environment; moisture criteria; cleanliness; packaging protection and distinguish confirmed requirements from items awaiting a decision.
- Send the delivery postcode and unloading arrangements. Ask for availability, suitability and delivery to be confirmed in the quotation.

Before agreeing the order
Review the proposed base against the packed goods, the handling equipment and the receiver’s written policy. If an eligible exchange pallet is required, state that separately from the 1200 × 800 footprint. Confirm treatment and marking requirements for export where relevant.
Keep the agreed specification with the dispatch instruction. If the packaging, load pattern or handling route changes, revisit the enquiry rather than assuming the previous base remains suitable.
