Euro pallet dry-storage planning for empty keg returns

Set the pallet condition and storage brief alongside the goods’ requirements. For empty keg returns, start with empty keg formats.

The buying brief for empty keg returns

Empty kegs can form a light but tall return load. The return journey needs a defined stack pattern and restraint, rather than simply reusing the outbound arrangement.

Set the pallet condition and storage brief alongside the goods’ requirements. Heat treatment is not a promise that timber will remain dry or clean after storage and transport.

What needs particular attention

An unstable return stack can move before the pallet reaches the brewery. Confirm any moisture or cleanliness criteria with the receiver, describe covered storage and keep packaging protection separate from treatment requirements.

Prepare the enquiry

  • Include a photograph or drawing of empty stainless-steel kegs returning from a distributor, with the packed dimensions and loaded mass.
  • Explain empty keg formats; nesting or stacking method; return height; segregation of damaged bases so the proposed base can be compared with the load.
  • Add storage environment; moisture criteria; cleanliness; packaging protection and distinguish confirmed requirements from items awaiting a decision.
  • Send the delivery postcode and unloading arrangements. Ask for availability, suitability and delivery to be confirmed in the quotation.

Use the Euro pallet quotation checklist to bring those details together. For a condition comparison, see new versus recycled Euro pallets.

Before agreeing the order

Review the proposed base against the packed goods, the handling equipment and the receiver’s written policy. If an eligible exchange pallet is required, state that separately from the 1200 × 800 footprint. Confirm treatment and marking requirements for export where relevant.

Keep the agreed specification with the dispatch instruction. If the packaging, load pattern or handling route changes, revisit the enquiry rather than assuming the previous base remains suitable.
