Used stock selection: what to establish
A darker used pallet can still need a careful structural and cleanliness check. Discuss functional acceptance separately from cosmetic wear and retain the receiver’s exclusions.
The question to answer first
Which visible wear is acceptable and which damage is excluded?
Record the answer alongside the size and condition of the proposed base. Include any receiver specification, because it can affect the decision before price or quantity is discussed.
| Buying decision | Grade B pallet condition |
|---|---|
| Main question | Which visible wear is acceptable and which damage is excluded? |
| Load information | Packed dimensions, total mass and the positions where the load contacts the deck. |
| Site information | Receiving requirements, handling equipment and storage support. |
| Order information | Quantity, delivery postcode and unloading arrangements. |
Apply the decision to a real load
Hops and adjuncts can arrive in cartons, sacks or sealed packs with different handling limits. Specify the packaging and protect labels and seals during pallet movement.
Mixing small packs into a larger stack can hide unsupported edges and create uneven pressure. Use the Euro pallets for racking guide for hops and brewing adjuncts to relate this question to a specific consignment.
Keep the specification clear
- Describe what is required rather than relying on a short commercial product name.
- Separate confirmed requirements from preferences and unanswered questions.
- Obtain the supplier’s proposed specification and compare it with the receiving policy.
- Confirm suitability, availability and transport arrangements before placing the order.
