The buying brief for engineering machinery
Machinery loads often place weight on a few feet or mounting points. Supply a drawing or clear photograph showing where the load contacts the base.
Turn the product description into enough detail for a useful supplier quotation. A quantity and a product name leave load suitability, pallet condition and delivery scope unresolved.
What needs particular attention
A heavy point load cannot be judged from a nominal evenly distributed load rating. Send the size, new or recycled preference, loaded weight and layout, handling route and receiver requirements together. Add the destination postcode and identify anything still awaiting confirmation.

Prepare the enquiry
- Include a photograph or drawing of a machine assembly prepared for dispatch, with the packed dimensions and loaded mass.
- Explain foot positions; centre of gravity; securing points; handling direction; lifting restrictions so the proposed base can be compared with the load.
- Add size; condition; loaded mass; layout; handling route; delivery postcode and distinguish confirmed requirements from items awaiting a decision.
- Send the delivery postcode and unloading arrangements. Ask for availability, suitability and delivery to be confirmed in the quotation.

Before agreeing the order
Review the proposed base against the packed goods, the handling equipment and the receiver’s written policy. If an eligible exchange pallet is required, state that separately from the 1200 × 800 footprint. Confirm treatment and marking requirements for export where relevant.
Keep the agreed specification with the dispatch instruction. If the packaging, load pattern or handling route changes, revisit the enquiry rather than assuming the previous base remains suitable.
