The buying brief for pallet collar loads

Collars create walls around a pallet but do not set the capacity of the base. Check the collar interface, filled contents and whether a liner or lid is needed.

Prepare the timber packaging brief for the destination country and shipment. Treatment marks and destination requirements need to be checked for the actual supplied packaging.

What needs particular attention

A matching outer size does not guarantee that every collar arrangement fits securely. Ask the shipper to identify destination requirements, list all solid timber packaging in the load and request appropriately marked pallets. Confirm any paperwork the receiver asks for.

Prepare the enquiry

  • Include a photograph or drawing of loose components contained by hinged timber collars, with the packed dimensions and loaded mass.
  • Explain collar interface; internal clearance; loose-part mass; liner; lid; stack arrangement so the proposed base can be compared with the load.
  • Add destination country; timber packaging list; required marks; receiver paperwork and distinguish confirmed requirements from items awaiting a decision.
  • Send the delivery postcode and unloading arrangements. Ask for availability, suitability and delivery to be confirmed in the quotation.

Use the Euro pallet quotation checklist to bring those details together. For a condition comparison, see new versus recycled Euro pallets.

Before agreeing the order

Review the proposed base against the packed goods, the handling equipment and the receiver’s written policy. If an eligible exchange pallet is required, state that separately from the 1200 × 800 footprint. Confirm treatment and marking requirements for export where relevant.

Keep the agreed specification with the dispatch instruction. If the packaging, load pattern or handling route changes, revisit the enquiry rather than assuming the previous base remains suitable.
